Living on One creates engaging media to connect our peers with the reality of poverty and inspire us all to take action.
PUSHING THE LIMITS
We are on a crazy adventure to better understand the reality of extreme poverty. It all began in 2010 when, as four university students, we spent our summer living on one dollar a day in a rural Guatemalan village. Our academic and professional understanding of economic development didn’t prepare us for what we would go through. We battled E.Coli, financial stress, and the realization that there are no easy answers. Yet, we found hope in the inspiring lives of our neighbors and friends. Ever since, we have devoted ourselves to telling these stories in a way that will inspire us all to confront global poverty.
MAKING IMPACTS
Beyond creating awareness, we provide opportunities for our generation to fight poverty effectively and build the skills necessary to innovate new solutions. We currently focus on supporting carefully evaluated microfinance organizations that provide simple, reliable and flexible financial services to the extreme poor. We do this by:
1. Creating media that is educational and easily shareable.
2. Partnering with Whole Planet Foundation to insure that 100% of the money raised for microfinance goes directly to empowering women borrowers around the world to bring themselves out of poverty.
3. Powering the Student Microfinance Movement, a resource for students to take microfinance classes, find internships, attend conferences and build the skill set necessary to become successful social entrepreneurs.
